to Throwing a Great Party
Part Two
![]()
Q.
What is the biggest mistake I can make?
A.
People don't plan to fail; they simple fail to plan. Good hosts organize
an event from the moment their guests receive their invitation all the
way through to saying goodnight. They prepare activities to revitalize
the party if things stall.
Q.
What can be planned to assure a successful party?
A.
Everything can and should be planned. Great parties may seem effortless
and spontaneous, but in reality they've been well thought out and
scheduled.
Q.
What if I'm working on a budget?
A.
Food and drink are the two biggest party expenses. Clearly indicate the
hours or type of party so no one anticipates a meal you're not prepared
to serve.
Plan your parties well in advance so you can take advantage of
after-holiday sales. For instance, the red candles or linens you buy
after Christmas can be used for Valentine's Day, every patriotic
holiday, Chinese New Year, Cinco de Mayo or Columbus Day, among
others.
Q.
What are the latest trends in party giving?
A.
Theme parties are a great idea for any age group. There are thousands of
theme-designed party goods available.
Grazing stations instead of one buffet table allows guests to mingle while eating. With the main course, salad, side dishes and desserts all on different tables, long lines are eliminated, and guests can explore the party site.
Q.
What are the most often asked questions for wedding planning?
A.
Most wedding questions include the word "have." "Do I have to use floral
centerpieces?" "When do I have to cut the cake?" "Do we have to invite
children to the reception?" "Do we have to serve alcohol?"
You don't "have" to do anything. Design the event the way you want it.
Create an atmosphere that fulfills your desires while taking into
consideration your guests' comfort and happiness.
Q.
How do you throw a successful kid's party?
A.
Try not to overwhelm your child, especially if he’s under 5 years old. Don't
invite more children than your child's age (3 years 3 children).
Children bore quickly, so plan more activities than you think you'll
need.
Make sure you have prizes for all children, especially if they're young. Yes, you can have a winner, but give each child a token prize for participating.
